Can Paul Replicate Hard Court Form on Clay?
Tommy Paul has five clay court titles at the ITF level and one on the Challenger tour, but when it comes to the ATP tour, the American is still looking to make an impact.
The 24-year-old, who won his only ATP title on the hard court of Stockholm last year, has a 13-14 overall record on clay. This season, he has won just one match in three tournaments.
That win came over Peter Gojowczyk in Houston, when the German retired during the match in the third set.
Since then, the World no. 35 lost to Nick Kyrgios in the second round in Houston, and made first round exits from Estoril and Madrid after suffering losses to Richard Gasquet and Jannik Sinner, respectively.
Paul had a good run on hard courts earlier this season, reaching the semis in Delray Beach and the quarterfinals in both the Adelaide events and in Acapulco.
It will be interesting to see if Paul can get going on clay on Monday.

Ramos-Vinolas Has Had a Decent Run on Clay This Year
Albert Ramos-Vinolas is 13-10 overall this season and 13-8 on clay. He claimed his fourth ATP title in Cordoba earlier this year and also reached the semifinals in Santiago and Estoril.
But the 34-year-old lost his opening round match in Madrid last week, falling to Marin Cilic in a three-set contest.
Ranked No. 43 in the world, Ramos-Vinolas has over 55% win record on clay. But despite having a good record on clay, he has never been able to make an impression in Rome.
The left-hander is 5-7 in Rome and has won two consecutive matches just once in 2018. He last played in Rome in 2020, bowing out of the first round.
Paul v Ramos-Vinolas Prediction and Tip
Ramos-Vinolas is more experienced and a better player on clay. Expect the Spaniard to advance into the second round.
