Jannik Sinner v Pedro Martinez Head to Head

Sinner and Martinez have not clashed before this.

Sinner Keen To Impress On Home Turf

Jannik Sinner may have been overtaken by fellow Next Gen star Carlos Alcaraz in the next big thing debate in men’s tennis, but he is still relatively improving in the most important aspects of his game.

Sinner’s resilience this season is unmatched, having won four ATP matches from match point down. Last week at the Madrid Masters, he snatched victory from the brink of defeat in his first-round match against Tommy Paul. Sinner saved multiple match points to deny the American before going on to defeat Alex De Minaur in the second round.

But it was in the Round of 16 where he came unstuck against Felix Auger-Aliassime. The young Italian won just three games. That defeat has posed more questions regarding Sinner’s partnership with new coach Simone Vagnozzi.

Since the pair of them began working together, Sinner has struggled for consistency although this has been largely affected by physical problems rather than coaching instructions. Now that Sinner has overcome all the niggling injuries and post-Covid effects, can he make an impact on home turf?

Martinez Winless In Three

For a brief moment last week, the cracks started to appear in Alex De Minaur’s game and Pedro Martinez was feeding on the crowd’s support on home soil. The Spaniard had all the momentum after taking the second set, but it was the quick feet of De Minaur that proved effective in getting the job done in the deciding set.

The disappointment will linger as will the thought of losing his third straight match. It is the worst sequence of results that Martinez has had to endure this term. But nonetheless, the 25-year-old is experienced enough to avert this crisis.

Martinez sits at a career-high ranking of No. 40, but it seems ages ago now since he captured his maiden ATP title in Santiago in February. And outside a respectable third-round showing in Miami, he has not been able to string back-to-back wins at any other tournament.

Martinez will be making just his second main draw appearance at the Italian Open this week.

Sinner v Martinez Prediction and Tip

Sinner’s partnership with new coach Vagnozzi hasn’t quite blossomed the way he would have liked. But it is still early days to push the panic button. I expect him to find his rhythm and feed on the Italian crowd support.

Tip: Sinner to win AND Over 21.5 games: 8/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
