Garbine Muguruza v Yulia Putintseva Head to Head
It’s 2-1 Muguruza; the Spaniard retired in their last meeting in the 2021 Charleston after trailing 0-6, 2-2.

Muguruza Struggling for Form
It’s been a forgettable season for Muguruza and one she would be desperate to turn around as she takes to court for this opener against Putintseva.
With just a quarterfinal appearance at Doha as anything remotely close to a solid showing under her belt, Muguruza will enter this match on the back of a third round exit at Madrid last week.
She was an easy winner in her opener against Ajla Tomljanovic before crashing to a straight-set loss to youngster Anhelina Kalinina in the next match, much to the surprise of those watching.
Even before that, Muguruza had lost to Alison Riske in Miami, going down after winning the first set to love.
With a 6-6 win-loss record for the season, Muguruza will hope it will be on the clay courts of Rome she can finally turn things around. Against a feisty Putintseva it might not be the easiest call, having lost to her once before on the red dirt of Charleston last season.

Putintseva Helps Herself to Juvan Scalp
Having qualified for this competition on the back of successive qualifier wins, Putintseva then needed three sets to get past Kaja Juvan in the first round.
Putintseva was on court for over three hours in her 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 win over Juvan, in a match that saw a total of 32 break-points on offer. Nine of them yielded breaks of which Putintseva got the fifth and decided break in the 11th game of the final set that helped her take a 6-5 lead.
The Kazakh then served it out to love to edge her forward to the second round.
This follows another second round appearance at Madrid, where she had defeated Shelby Rogers in the first round, and a semifinal appearance in Istanbul before that. With that kind of form on clay going for Putintseva, it comes as no surprise she is not a second favourite by a long distance in this one…
Muguruza v Putintseva Prediction and Tip
…Putintseva is 5/4 to win this and we actually like her chances to put one across Muguruza in this one. That said, at those odds, it might not be worth the effort. Better to go with the games market.
Tip: Over 20.5 Games: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
