Bianca Andreescu v Nuria Parrizas-Diaz Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 21 year old Canadian, and the Spaniard, who is nine years older.

Andreescu Benefits from Raducanu Misfortune

Andreescu’s first round match with Emma Radecanu was eagerly anticipated because it pitted against each other  two players who made headlines around the world when they won the US Open as teenagers.

In the end, though, it turned out to be a damp squib, because the British player, who had been struggling with a back injury needed a medical time-out towards the end of the first set and, then having lost that, decided she could not continue three games into the second set.

The Canadian will have sympathy having suffered with more than her own share of injuries since her US Open triumph, whilst she is still making her way back to the top after taking a  mental health break from the sport.

The fact that she has now made the second round in Rome is another step on her road to recovery.

Lucky Loser Parrizas-Diaz Riding Her Luck

Parrizas-Diaz, a classic example of a late developer, is making her debut in Rome and may consider herself unfortunate to have to enter the qualifying tournament, given her current world ranking.

And when she lost to Kaja Juvan of Croatia in the second round of that competition, she was ready to pack her bags and leave, only to get a reprieve as a lucky loser.

That brought her up against compatriot Sara-Sorribes Tormo, the world number 37, and Parrizas-Diaz was overwhelmed in the first set, winning only one game, and barely even winning a point against the Sorribes-Tormo serve.

The first three games of the second set went against serve, after which set of exchanges, Sorribes-Tormo was a break up. She seemed on course for victory when she too, felt an injury, and had to retire.

Andreescu v Parrizas-Diaz Prediction and Tip

Parrizas-Diaz has really ridden her luck in Rome, first entering the main draw as a lucky loser and then being on the wrong end of a dominant performance and yet still progressing. Andreescu had her own bit of good fortune against Radecanu, but the Canadian will view this as another step on the  long march back to the top.

Tip: Andreescu to win: 7/17 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
