Swiatek on a 23-Match Unbeaten Run
After missing the Madrid Open with a shoulder injury, World No. 1 Iga Swiatek is returning to action in Rome, where the top seed will begin her title defence on Wednesday.
Swiatek, who handed Karolina Pliskova a 6-0, 6-0 shellacking in the final last year, has won the last four tournaments that she has featured in in 2022 and will be looking to extend her 23-match win streak in Rome that saw her land titles in Qatar, Indian Wells, Miami and Stuttgart.
In between the last two triumphs, the 2022 Australian Open semifinalist also won two matches at the Billie Jean King Cup.
The 20-year-old, who shot to fame by clinching the French Open title in 2020, is 32-3 this season and is in such glorious form that she is the favourite to win a fifth title and improve her 83% win record on clay.
A seven-time tour-level champion, Swiatek will be hoping for a brisk start on Wednesday.

Ruse Rallies Past Rogers
It’s been a strange week for Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse, who retired from her final qualifying round, yet found a spot in the main draw as a lucky loser and eventually overcame the first hurdle to advance to the second round.
The World No. 57 was off to a slow start, dropping serve early and losing the first set to Rogers. But she clawed her way back into the contest, breaking the American twice in each of the last two sets, while getting broken just one more time in the match to register a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory.
The win marks the 2021 Hamburg Open champion’s first success in Rome, where she is making her main draw debut.
She hasn’t won consecutive main draw matches this season, and it looks highly likely that her second round struggles would continue in Rome.
Swiatek v Ruse Prediction and Tip
