Just like last week, Victoria Azarenka defeated Viktorija Golubic in straight sets to move to the 2nd round. In Madrid, it did not end that well in the end but Rome might be better. The win over Golubic was quicker and easier indicating that Vika is feeling a bit better this week.
She’s historically played rather well in Rome reaching the quarterfinal in the two times she last played at the event. She did not play last year so there is that. Overall she’s been pretty strong on clay and this year she is 3-1. She’s 11-6 overall which is a bit weaker than last year cause she only lost 9 matches overall in 2021.
Azarenka will be motivated because she has a young player against her who can play well on clay but still lacks a lot of experience, especially compared to Azarenka. She will certainly fancy her chances to move on.

Osorio Back to Tennis After A Month
The last time Osorio Serrano played was in Bogota about a month ago when she lost in the semifinal. It was the event where she lifted her maiden trophy last year and but she failed to defend it. The Colombian is a very young tennis player with a lot of talent that has made her way to the top of tennis.
She is still quite inexperienced as she did not play a lot of matches but she will certainly be a mainstay on the WTA tour for a very long time. She plays attacking tennis and is very tricky to beat both on clay and other surfaces. 35-17 was her score last year during her breakout season.
It’s 11-6 this year with 4-1 on clay indicating she can be tricky to beat. Azarenka will have her hands full but if anybody can ake down an attacking player it’s the counter-punching queen.
Azarenka v Osorio Serrano Prediction and Tip
So this is a fascinating matchup between two players with different styles. Osorio Serrano loves to attack and she rarely gives up the chance to do so. The best way to beat her is by forcing her to move a lot and attack without getting set. Who better than the counter-punching Azarenka who will do just that.
Osorio is also prone to committing a lot of mistakes if things don’t start going her way which makes her even more vulnerable against Azarenka. Overall this is just a perfect chance for Azarenka to advance to the next round as she is very familiar with Rome and plays here well.
The Colombian still has work to do to challenge the best and I doubt she will be ready after not playing for over a month despite a good win in round one.
