Djokovic versus Fucsovics Head to Head
The pair have only met once before, four months ago, in the first round of the US Open, when Djokovic, who went on to claim the crown in Flushing Meadows, beat Fucsovics in four sets. That set that the Hungarian won should hold him in a good stead going into this encounter against the otherwise seemingly invincible Djokovic.
Serb Comes in With Solid Form
Djokovic, heavy favourite with the bookmakers to claim his seventh Australian Open title in a month’s time, comes in the Qatar Open in fine form, having battled back from a set down on Saturday against Kevin Anderson to claim his fourth World Tennis Championship on Saturday.
By contrast, Fucsovics, who reached a career world ranking high of 36 in November, is largely untested at this level. He has only ever won one ATP event which was the Geneva Open last April, a clay court event which demonstrates where the strength of his game lies.
Everyone knows Djokovic’s records in Grand Slams which is amongst the very best. Fucsovics’ record is much more modest – he has never got beyond the first round at either Wimbledon or New York, and his best showing in a Slam came last year in Australia where he reached the fourth round only to crash out to Roger Federer in straight sets.
Djokovic v Fuscsovics – Who Will Win
Both come into the match after easy wins in the first round. Fucsovics beat Romania’s Marius Copil in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, whilst Djokovic overpowered Bosnian Damir Dzumhur even more emphatically 6 -1, 6 -2. However, this match is a major step-up in class for Fucsovics.
Djokovic will start this match as odds-on favourite to win. He is looking to fine-tune his form ahead of the Australian Open and it is virtually impossible to see how his opponent came match him on court. The Hungarian is 5 years younger than the Serb but, in reality, that is the only advantage that he has over the current world’s best player.
