Jil Teichmann v Elena Rybakina Head to Head

Teichmann and Rybakina met at last week’s Mutua Madrid Open – their only clash before this. The Swiss lefthander dispatched the Kazakh 6-3 6-1 in their round of 16 meeting.

Teichmann Stuns Pliskova Again

Jil Teichmann earned her second career win over Karolina Pliskova, whose season is teetering from bad to worse with every passing week.

Teichmann, who is coming from a semifinal finish at the Madrid Open this past week, has carried that momentum to Rome. She came through a very stubborn opponent in Jasmine Paolini in the first round in two comfortable sets.

Then on Wednesday, she stunned Pliskova in three sets to record her seventh win in nine matches on the dirt. She used the variety and soft touch of her left hand to trouble Pliskova throughout the match. She broke the big-serving Czech twice in the opening set with her superb defensive skills.

Pliskova showed her class in the second set and why she has reached three finals in a row at this tournament. She broke Teichmann in the opening game of the second set, and although she relinquished that advantage, she made another move at 4-4 in an absorbing rally that ended with an unreturned crosscourt forehand to break. The Czech went on to level with her most comfortable hold of the afternoon.

In the decider, the former World No. 1’s recovery did not last long. She missed on the chance to break Teichmann when the Swiss’ quick thinking saved a break point at 2-2. And then pressure got to Pliskova in the end while serving to stay in the match, netting her backhand and handing the win to the new World No. 29.

Rybakina Ends Davis’ Interest

Elena Rybakina put the brakes on Lauren Davis’s run at the Rome Open with a 6-4 6-3 win. Davis, who earned a shock win over Jelena Ostapenko in the opening round, was looking for a second Top 20 win in succession.

But those hopes were quickly dashed by the Kazakh, whose humungous first serve and penetrating shots were too powerful to withstand, even for Davis’ counterpunching abilities.

Rybakina was clinical in break point conversion, going 4 out of 4, and she has little interest in engaging in cat-and-mouse games from the back of the court, and instead finishing points at will.

Rybakina is yet to advance past the third round at the Rome Open, but she has only played this tournament once before this week. Can she avenge her loss to Teichmann from the Madrid Open when the pair of them cross swords on Thursday?

Teichmann v Rybakina Prediction and Tip

Teichmann is playing some of the best tennis of her life. Her brand of tennis comes with its own cocktail of drops shots, agility, and fine shotmaking. The variety in her game should topple Ryabkina’s one-dimensional style of play on Thursday.

Tip: Teichmann to win: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
