Novak Djokovic v Stan Wawrinka Head to Head
Djokovic leads 19-6 head to head, but it’s Wawrinka who has prevailed in the last two meetings. The Swiss won the U.S. Open title by beating the Serb in 2016 and then won again in the same tournament in 2019.
Djokovic has a 5-2 lead on clay courts, one of his defeats came at the Roland Garros final in 2015.
They have met twice in Rome, Djokovic won the title in 2008 by beating Wawrinka in the final. He also beat the Swiss in the Round of 16 in 2011.

World no. 1 Novak Djokovic registered his 60th win in Rome as he eased past Aslan Karatsev in the second round on Wednesday.
A five-time champion and six-time runner-up at the Italian Open, Djokovic got an early break to take a 2-0 lead in the first set, but the Russian got the break nack immediately to send the set back to serve. The Serb, however, broke again in the eighth game and then held serve to take a one-set-to-love lead.
There were no hiccups for the top seed in the second set as he raced to a 4-0 lead before closing out the match 6-3, 6-2.
Playing just in his fifth tournament this season, Djokovic is 8-4 in 2022. He missed out on a title in Belgrade, finishing runner-up to Andrey Rublev and then lost a tough semifinal against the red-hot Carlos Alacaraz in Madrid.
Djokoivc is chasing his 38th Masters title this week and the 86-time tour level champion will be backing himself to reach a 16th quarterfinal in his 16th main draw appearance in Rome.

Wawrinka Wins Another Epic
After rallying past Reilly Opelka in the first round, Stan Wawrinka needed two hours and 49 minutes to outlast Laslo Djere in the second round on Wednesday to advance to the Round of 16 .
The opening round win over Opelka was the 37-year-old Swiss player’s first in 15 months as he underwent two foot surgeries last year. He made a return to the Marbella Challenger this year and then featured in Monte Carlo, losing the opening rounds of both the tournaments.
Currently ranked No. 361st in the world, Wawrinka became the lowest-ranked player to reach the third round in Rome since No. 411 Corrado Borroni in 1995.
The three-time Grand Slam champion put on another gutsy performance on Wednesday, as he saved two set points in the first set tiebreak to seal it 10-8. Djere was the first player to break in the match, in the eighth game of the second set, which helped him force the decider.
Having conceded an early break, the Swiss trailed 1-3 in the third, but he soon got the break back and then broke again in the 10th game, converting a fifth match point for a 7-6 (10-8), 3-6, 6-4 victory.

Djokovic seems to be back in his elements, while Wawrinka’s fitness will be tested after two draining matches. The Serb should dominate this contest before notching his 20th win over Wawrinka.
