Amanda Anisimova v Aryna Sabalenka Head to Head

It’s 4-0 to Anisimova, who has bagged three of those wins on clay courts. Moreover, two of them came as recently as the Charleston Open and Madrid Open this season.

Both those matches went to three sets but Sabalenka fell short in the final hurdle.

Sabalenka Finding her Form

The season so far hasn’t been particularly kind to Aryna Sabalenka. At one point in time, she was ranked #2, just inches away from becoming the World No. 1. Now, she has slipped down to the eighth place and if her rut continues, she may fall out further.

All things considered, Sabalenka has portrayed a fighting spirit in Rome as the number three seed. She is yet to drop a set and has dismissed Shuai Zhang and Jessica Pegula, losing just seven games in the process.

Now, she is running into a nemesis to whom she has lost four times on the tour with zero wins. As we all know, Sabalenka is a competitive player and doesn’t like losing – so one can only imagine the state of her mind when she steps onto the court to face Anisimova on Friday.

For what it’s worth, she has an impressive pedigree that should help her out. The 24-year-old has four WTA 1000 titles to her name while in the doubles, she has bagged the US Open and Australian Open titles with Elise Mertens. The reigning Stuttgart Open finalist has also made it to 16 WTA finals while her American adversary is at three.

That said, Sabalenka’s inconsistency and erratic form in 2022 – notably losing to lower-ranked players – doesn’t inspire a whole lot of confidence in her. Case in point, she arrived in Italy with a tally of 10-10.

Anisimova on a Roll

20-year-old Amanda Anisimova has been pretty impressive in the tournament. She has dismissed a handful of impressive players, starting with Tereza Martincova, Belinda Bencic, and Danielle Collins, to reach the quarterfinals.

The American reached the same stage in Madrid last week by overcoming Sabalenka, Petra Martic, and Victoria Azarenka. Before that, she was a semifinalist in Charleston while at the start of the season, she bagged the Melbourne Set 2 title.

Anisimova has played some fine tennis this season; her tally now stands at 20-7 and the 2019 French Open semifinalist is enjoying a good stint on clay.

Sabalenka v Anisimova Prediction and Tip

Anisimova has a strong psychological advantage in this match over Sabalenka. If she gets off to a strong start, she can subdue her opponent and make it 5-0. But we know that Sabalenka won’t go down easy. She will do her best to break the jinx this time.

In all fairness, the match can go either way but we may be looking at another long affair.
