So for a moment, Ilya Ivashka looked very good upon returning from injury. However, that did not translate to many wins lately as he lost three consecutive matches at 3 different events. All those matches were close and in all three he was able to snatch a set.
He will certainly do that against Giron as well who is a very similar player level-wise. They are close skill-wise but Giron has had much more success lately. That could give the American some confidence that might prove the deciding factor in this matchup.
He is only 5-8 o the year but he did not play that much due to an injury. On clay, he is 3-7 and historically he has not played that much on it. He took a set-off of several solid player so I expect him to be quite decent again. He is always relatively decent.

Marcos Giron Looking Good
So Marcos Giron had a pretty decent stay in Rome taking down Alexander Bublik in straight sets and Diego Schwartzman in straight sets. The win over Diego is a particularly impressive one as the Argentine generally plays superb tennis in the Italian capital.
There is a certain shift in the confidence level of Giron who is looking very good on clay. He has a good serve and that will suit him well in any matchup. If he can back it up fro the baseline as well he will be in good shape. He will fancy his chances against Ivashka and he should.

So these two players are expected to play a close match. It’s not only because they are close skill-wise it’s because they are both quite solid. I expect this one to go to three sets simply because I can’t see either winning in two. There will be lapses in focus by both and that’s going to make it go three.
The over seems like the best option here as I can see both holding their serve rather well. I predict a close game which should help as well. When it comes to the winner, I have to lean Giron simply because he showed more recently. If he disappoints, well, lesson learned.
