Astra Sharma is not having a good 2022 year which is disappointing because the Australian played decent tennis last year. She’s only 5-10 on the year and that can be much better considering her talent should be enough to keep her in the top 100.
She ranked firmly outside of the top 100 at the moment and that needs to change. Some encouraging sings have happened on clay this year as the Aussie is 2-2 o the surface with a pretty decent historic record on it. A good chance will be in Rabat as Sharma doesn’t have many opportunities to play on the WTA tour level.
Her game is centred around a very good serve which serves her well both in singles in doubles. She can volley well but doesn’t attack the net often. Groundstrokes are not that powerful and that can get her in trouble against some stronger players but overall she’s pretty decent all around.

Clay Woes For Zacarias
A player from Mexico generally is well versed on the red dirt however Marcela Zacarias is o-5 on the surface this year. It’s a strange development for her considering that this year has been pretty good overall. She is 19-11 on the year but somehow she just can’t win on clay.
To be fair, she has never been the best player on the surface historically barely holding a positive record on it throughout several years of her career. All five of those losses came in the past several weeks with Zacarias currently on an active 5-match losing streak.
She did win a few sets so that should give her some confidence but it’s unclear how much she will be able to do against Sharma. Most of the matches Zacarias plays are on the ITF level and 0-5 on that level on clay won’t help her much.
Sharma v Zacarias Prediction and Tip
So you can tackle this one from a few different perspectives. Sharma is not having a good year but she has mostly played stronger competition than her opponent. Looking at it that way it doesn’t matter much that Zacarias has won more matches hits year.
The Mexican is currently in worse form than Sharma and generally is the weaker player. Sharma has been okay on clay this year and pretty decent in the past few years. You could argue she’s a better player on clay than Zacarias and you would not be wrong.
That is the reason I firmly believe Sharma will win this match and move on in Rabat. Back the Aussie to get it done in two.
