Karen Khachanov v Gilles Simon Head to Head

Karen Khachanov has been playing pretty decent tennis all year long but in Rome the Russian found a better level that scored him a huge win over Pablo Carreno Busta while also troubling Stefanos Tsitsipas. The basic and biggest problem he keeps having is consistency.
He simply can’t find a very consistent level and that just gets him beat by better players even when he plays well. He can’t keep it up. Simon is not a great player anymore so Khachanov should not have that problem here. Karen is 14-12 on the year and 3-4 on clay.
Historically Khachanov has not played much on clay but he’s pretty decent on the surface. A lot will depend on his serve like always so if he can hit it at a very high level he should be in good shape against the majority of players on the tour.

Simon’s Last Rodeo
Gilles Simon is playing his final season so any time he can play some tennis on his native ground he will be quite excited about it. This event in Lyon is probably the last one he will ever play in that part of the country and he had to play the qualies to get in.
He played well probably knowing what was at stake. He took down two opponents to move into the main draw but Karen Khachanov provides a challenge that he most likely won’t be able to handle. His record this year is 12-14 and 2-4 on clay which is not good.
Historically he’s been pretty good on clay but those years are far removed. It’s going to be tough but keep on reading to understand what might happen.
Khachanov v Simon Prediction and Tip
So this is a rather simple matchup for me. One player is younger, he’s in better shape, he played better all year long and he’s had better results recently. Simon will be motivated to put up a good show for his native fans but I don’t see him doing anything more than winning a set.
The inconsistency in his game will allow a small chance for Simon but I don’t see him taking it and winning a match. One set, sure, I can see that happening but I don’t see him winning the match. Take Khachanov and just roll with it. He’ll win.
