Claire Liu v Astra Sharma Head to Head
They played twice before with Liu winning both matches. The most recent one happened two weeks ago with Liu winning 6-1 6-2.

21-year old Claire Liu is playing a very good season so far with her ranking improving accordingly. She has a lot of talent and she competes very well and it was evident in the previous round. She pulled out an incredible comeback win over Mayar Sherif smashing the Egyptian in the final set 6-1.
That victory certainly drained her and it will be interesting to see how well she plays against Sharma. Claire likes to attack and she can really create tricky angles on the court. She moves well and is rather quick. All of that makes her a deadly opponent on many surfaces.
Her serve is rather decent but she can get broken a lot of times on clay. Her matches are quite dramatic and I expect this one to be as well. She is 18-9 on the year and 11-2 on clay. With that sort of record it’s very hard to doubt her.

Good Wins For Sharma
Astra Sharma is an interesting tennis player. She has a good serve, can volley well but her groundstrokes are nothing to write about. She plays rather passively and is prone to get beaten by players who can attack consistently. That’s what happened a few weeks ago when she faced Liu.
This week in Rabat has been good for her and it’s a result she needed badly. Her ranking dipped because her results this year are quite a bit worse than last year. Many expected a solid ascension but it did not happen. She is only 7-10 on the year but 4-2 on clay.
Compare that to 25-21 last year and you’ll spot the problem. Sharma won both matches here in three sets showing a high level of fight. Whether that left her too drained for another one remains to be seen. Keep reading to see what might happen.
Liu v Sharma Prediction and Tip
So they are quite different players and Liu obviously plays a riskier style. However, that style also gives her a lot of chances against passive players like Sharma. They played a couple of weeks ago on the slow courts in France and Liu smashed Sharma easily.
This match won’t be that easy because Sharma will know what to expect. Both should be tired which opens up pandora’s box and you can’t beat really sure what to expect. Sharma should be more ready physically due to being on the Tour longer but Liu is the better player.
Liu also played much better this year. I am far more impressed by the American than by the Aussie so I’ll back her to win. The value is not huge but I don’t see her losing this unless she is completely tired.
