Alex de Minaur v Yusuke Watanuki Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 23-year old Australian, and the Japanese player, who is one year older.

De Minaur Overcomes Difficult Start Against Frenchman
De Minaur, who was given a first round bye, came into Lyon in good form on clay, having previously reached the semi-finals in Barcelona.
During that run in Catalonia, he had beaten the French player Ugo Humbert, the world number 45, and the vagaries of the draw meant that they met again on Wednesday in the second round.
It was somewhat of a tipsy-turvy match that, to start with, did not go the Australian’s way at all.
He dropped his opening two service games and Humbert was able to romp through the first set for the loss of just one game.
De Minaur again came under pressure at the start of the second set and had to save a number of break points. But he gradually worked his way back into the match, and when he was presented with a break opportunity, he took it, and served out to level next game.
Humbert’s resistance began to crumble after that. He was broken midway through the third set and again two games later, and de Minaur was able to close out the match next game.

Lucky Loser Watanuki Extends His Run
Watanuki is an example of somebody who has exploited the good fortune handed to him.
The Japanese man had been beaten in the second round of qualifying, but was given another chance as a lucky loser, and took full advantage by pulling off a surprise first round win over the world number 43, Pedro Martinez of Spain.
That earned him a second round match with Soonwoo Kwon of Japan in what was an all East Asian clash, and he kept his unexpected run going with another impressive victory.
Watanuki began the match badly and dropped his opening service game of the match. But he was soon back on level terms and then moved a break ahead, giving him the chance to serve out for the first set which he took.
Both men served break points in the second set, but Watanuki struck what proved to be the decisive blow by breaking Kwon again. The South Korean saved a match point on his own serve, but it was only delaying the inevitable and Watanuki sealed the victory in his next game.
De Minaur v Watanuki Prediction and Tip
Getting this far is an achievement in itself for Watanuki, but, in de Minaur, he is facing a different calibre of opponent to those he has so far met in Lyon. It is difficult to see beyond an Australian win.
