Ruud Coming off Solid Geneva Showing
At the time of writing, Ruud was about to feature in the semifinals at the Geneva Open having already played at the semifinal of the Rome Masters in the week prior.
The reason why the world number eight is in action in the week before the French Open seems to be to do with his performances on clay otherwise this season.
Ruud started off at Monte-Carlo and fell in the third round, and then at Barcelona was ousted in the quarterfinals. And is if things couldn’t get worse, Ruud was sent packing by Botic van de Zandschulp at Munich and more vitally Dusan Lajovic sent him packing in the second round in Madrid.
It was only in Rome that he finally some of his clay rhythm back exacting his revenge over van de Zandschulp before defeating Jenson Brooksby and Denis Shapovalov in the next two rounds.
A loss to Novak Djokovic, the eventual winner, was only expected but those results would have given the Norwegian some relief. Coming off five titles last year, four of which came on clay, Ruud will hope he can do a lot better at French Open than he has all season on clay.

Tsonga on a Six-Match Losing Streak
Tsonga’s results have crashed in recent times obviously and he has announced his retirement from the sport this year. This edition of French Open will be his last.
And unfortunately for him, the signs aren’t looking too good for what could turn out to the last match of his career.
The Frenchman has lost six matches in a row, three of which have come on clay including one at the Aix en Provence Challenger. Overall this year, Tsonga is 3-9 on win-loss in 2022, following on from winning just one of the 11 previous matches he had played over the 2020 and 2021 period.
A big tennis name in his own right, it doesn’t look like Tsonga is going to have it too easy despite having the crowds behind him for this.
