Sidelined by an elbow injury since February, Barbora Krejcikova will be making a much anticipated comeback to the court as she begins her title defence in Roland Garros.
The World No. 2, who won her fourth Grand Slam doubles title with Kateřina Siniaková at the Australian Open in January, is 9-4 in singles in 2022. She was a finalist in Sydney and a quarterfinalist in the season’s first major, but had won just one match each in Dubai and Doha before being forced to pull out of tournaments due to the injury.
As the Czech returns to action, she will be aiming to quickly shake off any rust and play at a level that saw her clinch the title by defeating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the final in 2021.
Last year was the most productive season for the 26-year-old as a singles player. While an established doubles player, she didn’t have a huge reputation in singles, but three titles from four finals, including a Grand Slam success, during a 40-10 season changed it all. She made massive gains in the rankings and broke into the top 10 for the first time in her career, before peaking to No. 2 in February this year.
There will be a lot of interest around her fitness. If she gets off to a good start she could once again be going deep into the tournament.

Parry Looking To Impress at Home
Diane Parry will be making her fourth main draw appearance in the Paris major. She has won just one match in her previous three appearances and that was over Tamara Zidansek in 2019.
The 19-year-old has made her mark as a clay court player at the lower levels. She reached two WTA 125 finals last season, winning the title in Montevideo and finishing runner-up in Buenos Aires.
In addition, Parry also has four ITF titles, all on clay, three of which she won last season.
As far as the World No. 96’s recent form is concerned, she won a match each in the WTA 125 in Saint Malo and Paris but fell to Angelique Kerber in the opening round in Strasbourg. This was her third tour-level appearance this season. She made a first round exit from the Australian Open and also lost her opener in Monterrey, after making the main draw through the qualifying rounds.

Making a return after being out for a couple of months may not be easy for Krejcikova, but she will still be the favourite to win the opener without much fuss.
