Dan Evans v Francisco Cerundolo Head to Head

They never played before.

Soon To Be Over For Evans

Dan Evans doesn’t like the clay and it’s no wonder. There are not many clay courts in the United Kingdom so his experience on the surface has been limited. Somewhat of a defensive player, Evans generally doesn’t thrive in these conditions but he can beat you if you allow him.

Somewhat of a down year for Evans so far with an 11-12 record and 3-6 on clay. He’ll probably improve as the tour moves away from the red dirt and onto the grass and hard courts but he will have to endure one more event. He never made it past the first round in Paris losing last year to Kecmanovic.

Evans will drive you crazy with his defensive ability as well as with his slices so if you’re an impatient player that can be your downfall. Cerundolo is not the most patient player so there is a chance for Evans there if he plays as well as he can.

Cerundolo Rising Through The Ranks

Francisco Cerundolo flashed his potential last year by winning a maiden trophy on clay in South America. Since then it’s been a slow rise for the Argentinian who is now ranked inside the top 50 thanks to some solid play across the board. He thrives the most on clay and prefers to play very attacking tennis.

That leaves him prone to errors and he will need to control that, especially against Evans who will try to force as many as he can. Cerundolo is 24-13 on the year and 17-9 on clay clearly showing his rise and surface preference. Roland Garros should suit him rather well.

He played last year as well but lost to Thiago Monteiro in three sets. This year he will have a decent chance against Evans who will probably already be looking towards the grass.

Evans v Cerundolo Prediction and Tip

So this matchup needs to be looked at from a couple of angles. Cerundolo will be far more comfortable on the clay than Evans and he will generally attack more. Whether he wins this match or not will come down to how many errors he commits

He can defeat Evans but he will need to keep himself in control. In theory, he should have the patience for it but Evans can frustrate even the calmest. Both will need their serve and Evans is a bit more consistent there. However, he has still to win a match at Roland Garros and that speaks volumes.

I don’t see this one ending in three sets, quite possibly not even in four. I think it will be a battle but I think the Argentine will prevail. I assume he will want this more as well and that might get him over the finish line in the end. Take Cerundolo.
