Kasatkina’s Strong Run in Rome Should Help

It has been a steadily improving showing from Kasatkina on clay for the season.

The Russian started off with a second round loss at Strasbourg, went one better in Madrid by reaching the third round but showed her true on-court colours in Rome where she reached the semifinal.

More vitally, her run through to the last four stage needed her to jump through hoops.

There was Tamara Zidansek in the first round, she then needed to get past Leylah Fernandez before shocking Paula Badosa in the third – Badosa was 3/10 favourite in that one.

A straight-set win over Jil Teichmann followed soon after before her run was put to a halt by Ons Jabeur. And even there, Kasatkina managed to pull through to 12 games in the final set.

Can she use her showing in Rome to help herself to a French Open performance that matches her best ever – a quarterfinal in the 2018 edition?

Peterson Struggling to Stitch Together Wins

It’s been a forgettable year for the former world number 43, Peterson, with the Swede having never won successive matches in a WTA tournament in 2022.

In the seven tournaments at the highest level for the season, Peterson has won her opener five times but her problem extends to what’s followed – a defeat in the very second round.

At the only ITF tournament Peterson featured in early May, Peterson did reach the quarterfinal but followed it up with a first round loss at Rabat.

With Peterson having won a round at French Open only three times in her career – and followed it up with a loss again – it does look highly unlikely she would have the confidence to test her opponent here.

Kasatkina v Peterson Prediction and Tip

Kasatkina is 1/5 to win this and that’s a safe bet to go with despite the paltry returns. You could also go for the games handicap market for this one.
