Elena Rybakina v Arantxa Rus Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in the qualifying rounds of the 2018 US Open where Rus had eased past Rybakina to make the final qualifying round.

Rybakina 16-9 This Year

It’s been a steady kind of a season for Rybakina as she enters a tournament in which she had made it as far as the quarterfinal last season.

And while her form on clay hasn’t been as solid as she would have liked, Rybakina has a kind draw for her till at least the fourth round, which she would hope to make the best use of.

The world number 16, however, will need to shrug some of her clay tournament results off.

Like she started off her clay campaign for the season with an opening round defeat in Charleston at the hands of Anhelina Kalinina, despite starting out as a 11/25 favourite to come through.

A second round defeat at the hands of Paula Badosa in Stuttgart wasn’t entirely unexpected but it’s one she will need to quickly learn off as Badosa could be an opponent she faces in the fourth round here as well.

And while she did make it to the third round in both, Madrid and Rome, Rybakina will need to improve by leaps and bounds coming into the season’s second major. Can she start off with a facile win to give her back her confidence?

Quarterfinal at Rabat for Rus

Clay is Rus’ favourite surface by a country mile and that can be seen from her results on that surface each year. Including this one in 2022.

The Dutchwoman made the second round in Marbella in March before repeating the same in Istanbul too – both times losing three-setters she would have thought she had a chance at winning.

A title win on the ITF circuit would have boosted morale but what was followed was early losses in Wiesbaden La Bisbal – both ITF tournaments again.

Which is also why winning back to back matches in Rabat – albeit against very low-ranked opponents – would have provided Rus some relief. Can she turn things around at the highest level though, in a tournament she last won a main draw match way back in 2012?

Rybakina v Rus Prediction and Tip

Rybakina should not have any problem dispatching Rus in this one despite her opponent’s credentials and experience on clay.

Tip: Rybakina to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
