Alex De Minaur v Hugo Gaston Head to Head
De Minaur and Gaston have not clashed at any level before this.

De Minaur Produces His Best Clay-Court Campaign Yet
Alex De Minaur played his best tennis on a clay court this season, compiling a 9-5 record on the surface in the build-up to Roland Garros. Some of the Australian’s best results came in Barcelona and most recently at the ATP 250 event in Lyon, where he lost in the semifinals stage.
The wait for a first ATP final on clay goes on, but he can take solace from the fact that this year’s French Open represents his most opportune moment to at least reach the second week. A return to the world’s Top 20 is imminent with De Minaur now just one spot away.
While the 23-year-old hasn’t advanced beyond the second round of the Paris slam in any of his previous five visits, he has scored some high-quality wins this season that should serve as a springboard to even greater success in the next fortnight.
Overall, De Minaur is a solid 21-11 and rarely tumbles in the first round of tournaments. Only one of his 11 defeats this season have come that early, so the chances of an upset might be unlikely.

Is Gaston Saving His Best For Paris?
Despite sitting in the world’s Top 70 and playing at his second successive Grand Slam main draw without the need of a wild card, this has been a mixed year for Hugo Gaston.
The 21-year-old dropshot specialist has endured his worst sequence of results in recent weeks winning just once in his last seven matches. Routine defeats to the likes of Fernando Verdasco at the Bordeaux Challenger and Manuel Guinard in Lyon have clearly shaken his confidence and he comes at his home slam at rock bottom.
Gaston, however, cannot be discounted at Roland Garros. He reached the Round of 16 on his main draw debut in 2020, stunning former champion Stan Wawrinka in the process at a staggering 11/1 odds. Gaston nearly repeated the trick in his next round but lost to Dominic Thiem in five.
The Frenchman is almost guaranteed a lion’s share of support by the raucous home crowd, so could he channel that energy into his game on Sunday?
De Minaur v Gaston Prediction and Tip
Barring a major turnaround in form, this looks like a very tough draw for Gaston. He does have the silky hands to pull off the most spectacular shots, but he is unlikely to trouble the quick feet of De Minaur.
Tip: De Minaur to win in four sets: 13/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
