Sorana Cirstea v Tatjana Maria Head to Head
Cirstea leads 2-0, last defeating the German in the 2019 WTA Limoges Challenger in three sets.

Cirstea Coming off a Poor Clay Run
Historically speaking, clay has been a good turf for Sorana Cirstea. She has three WTA finals on red dirt and has also delivered her best Slam results (quarterfinal, 2009) on the clay courts in Paris.
This year, however, the 32-year-old Romanian has had a pretty bleak spell as she looks to turn it around at the Roland Garros.
While Cirstea did start the clay swing with a semifinal run in Istanbul, she has since moved on to lose in the opening matches in Madrid, Rome, and Strasbourg. The defeats may be surprising to some extent as they came at the hands of Nuria Parrizas Diaz, Ons Jabeur, and Ekaterina Makarova respectively.
However, the number 26 seed did enjoy a good start to the year; she made it to round four in the Australian Open and Indian Wells, and the semis in Lyon Open. Cirstea has been a steady part of the top 30 for some time now and has the potential to make it to the mid-rounds here.

Maria, Playing under PR
World No. 107 Tatjana Maria has spent the better part of this season on the ITF circuit in a bid to build her form and gain some momentum.
She has made remarkable progress, having started the year outside the top 250 and now, she finds herself closer to a top 100 entry.
Maria’s highlights of the season entail winning the ITF Rome (USA) and WTA Bogota – both as a qualifier. The 34-year-old also reached the semifinal in ITF Charlottesville.
In her last few events, however, the veteran German has struggled to win the opening matches as she lost early in ITF Charleston, Bonita Springs, and the Karlsruhe Challenger.
Cirstea v Maria Prediction and Tip
Cirstea should win this one – after all, she is well-experienced and has a brilliant track record when compared to Tatjana. She also made it as far as the fourth round in last year’s French Open; there is no reason why she cannot do it again.
That said, she is a bit rusty and may find herself battling for quite some time before she can bag this win.
