Coric Struggling After Long Injury Lay-Off

It has been a tough 12 months for Coric, twice a winner on the ATP tour, and who was once ranked as high as number 12 in the world.

Last May he underwent shoulder surgery in New York, and the recovery period from that operation proved longer than expected, during which time he dropped out of the top 100 for the first time in eight years.

And, since he has finally got back to court, he has really struggled to find his previous performance levels, having won just one match in 2022, and that was in the first round in Miami.

Since then his record is played five lost five, including all the clay court matches in which he has played.

A man who has reached the third round in Paris on four previous occasions, he earns his place in the main draw due to his Protected Ranking.

Taberner Challenger Clay Court Winner in March

One of the current abundant crop of Spanish clay court players, Taberner has already had joy on the surface this year, winning a Challenger tournament in Italy in March, his eight success at that level.

He has yet to translate that form to the senior tour, and the two previous times he has qualified for the French Open, he has never been beyond the first round.. In fact, he is yet to progress beyond that stage at any of the Grand Slam events.

Recently, he qualified for both Barcelona and Estoril, going on to reach the second round of both those events.

However, he missed out on Lyon last week, beaten in the first round of qualifying by the Japanese world number 263, Yosuke Watanuki.

Coric v Taberner Prediction and Tip

A fully fit and functioning Coric would normally start favourite for this match, but the Croat is still trying to rediscover his old performance levels after his long lay-off. That tips the odds in favour of the Spaniard.
