Karatsev Out of the Limelight
Aslan Karatsev was the talk of the town at this stage last season. After a superb Australian Open campaign in which he made history by reaching the semifinals as a qualifier and winning an ATP title in Dubai, the Russian looked like he would single-handedly take all comers.
But fast forward to 2022, and Karatsev is slowly slipping out of the limelight. Results have been bad and performances even worse.
Since capturing the third ATP title of his career in Sydney at the turn of the year, things have fallen into pieces. And ironically, it started at the Australian Open where he surprisingly lost out to Adrian Mannarino in the third round.
And since setting foot out of Australia, Karatsev has managed a famine of just three wins from 11 tournaments – a run that has seen him tumble down the rankings. Should a first-round exit materialize at Roland Garros, he could realistically exit the world’s Top 40.

Ugo Carabelli Qualifies For Maiden Grand Slam
Camilo Ugo Carabelli successfully qualified for the main draw of the 2022 French Open after winning the most important match of his short career, beating Alexander Ritschard in the final round of qualifying 7-6 6-2.
The 22-year-old Argentine did not have major obstacles in his path. He started the week with a comfortable 6-4 6-4 win over experienced Japanese Yuichi Sugita. He would then benefit from his next opponent, Ernesto Escobedo, retiring hurt in the middle of the first set.
And against Switzerland’s Ritschard, the Argentine had fresh legs to outmaneuver his opponent who had battled his way past a couple of three-setters. After a tight opening first set which was decided in a tie break, it was the 22-year-old Ugo Carabelli who went on to wrap the victory, saving six break points on his serve.
Can he produce the upset in the first round?
Karatsev v Carabelli Prediction and Tip
Karatsev’s form has been one of the most disappointing stories of this 2022 season. His issues are clearly more mental than physical and he is just not capable of summoning his best tennis. Carabelli is too short in the Moneyline market, but he should be able to at least bag a set in this one.
