Ramos-Vinolas on a Four-Match Losing Streak

Albert Ramos-Vinolas will be making his 12th appearance in the main draw at Roland Garros. The 34-year-old clay court specialist has been a regular in the tournament since making his debut in 2011.

The lefty also produced his best-ever Grand Slam result at the French Open, reaching his only major quarterfinal in 2016. The Spaniard also made it to the Round of 16 the next year, but has lost in the first round on six occasions. Last year, too, he lost his opener to Gael Monfils.

Ramos-Vinolas, who is 13-12 this season, is 13-10 on clay. He picked up his fourth ATP title in Cordoba and was a semifinalist in Santiago and Estoril. But he is currently on a four-match losing streak. Ever since losing in the semifinal in Estoril, he lost opening round matches in Madrid, Rome and Geneva

Clay is the only surface where he has a winning record and has won 55% of his matches on the surface. He has a 4-7 record in ATP finals, with only one of those finals being played on hard, where he finished runner-up. Rest all of his finals have been on clay. He will be looking to end the skid by making a good start in Paris on Sunday.

Kokkinakis Is Coming off a Decent Geneva Campaign

World no. 85 Thanasi Kokkinakis doesn’t have a huge reputation on clay, but the Australian is coming off a decent showing in Geneva. He knocked out two solid clay court players in Fabio Fognini and Federico Delbonis to reach the quarterfinals, but fell to Casper Ruud in straight sets.

Kokkinakis had a decent run on the hard courts earlier this year, winning his maiden title in Adelaide-2 and reaching the semifinals in Adelaide-1. The 26-year-old also reached the fourth round in Miami and heads to Paris with a 14-7 season record.

Kokkinakis had reached the third round on his French Open debut in 2015 and was knocked out of the opening round in 2017. He will be aiming for a better showing in his third main draw appearance.

Ramos-Vinolas v Kokkinakis Prediction and Tip

Although he has been inconsistent on his favourite surface, Ramos-Vinolas’ vast experience gives him a slight edge in the contest. Kokkinakis will be looking to draw inspiration from his Geneva showing. Expect a very close contest, with the Spaniard edging past the Aussie.
