25-year-old Oceane Dodin has had a good run in the 2022 clay tournaments as she now looks to cap it off with a similar streak in the creme de la creme of the Slams.
Her last event was in Strasbourg where she reached the semifinal before retiring against the eventual champion Angelique Kerber due to illness. The Frenchwoman, in the process, beat the likes of Ana Konjuh, Ekaterina Makarova, and Viktorija Golubic.
Dodin delivered a similar result in the Marbella Challenger, falling just one win shy of the trophy match. In the other WTA events, however, the current World No. 84 was seen struggling. She consistently failed to make it past the opening matches – notably in the Madrid Open, Lyon Open, Qatar Open, Indian Wells, and so on.
Interestingly, in Paris, she has fallen in the first round in her last two appearances but this time around, she has a chance to make amends for that.

Petkovic, a Former Top 10 Player
Around the same time almost 10 years ago, Andrea Petkovic was ranking in the top 20 and was making waves on the tour. Now, the 34-year-old finds herself fighting to reclaim some of that lost glory.
Last year, she broke back into the top 100 and has now climbed up to the #65 spot in the singles ranking. She bagged two finals – both on clay – in 2021 while winning her first singles title since February 2015.
Petkovic has done relatively well to keep that tempo going but at the same time, she hasn’t played that much tennis either. Her highlights include reaching the quarterfinal in Melbourne 1 and round two in St. Petersburg. In the clay tournaments of Madrid and Rome, the German lost respectively in the first round and qualifiers.

This is a match that can go either way. Petkovic has shown resilience since her resurgence but hasn’t been the most consistent player in the bunch. Meanwhile, Dodin is coming with some momentum but lacks main tour wins.
A safe bet would be to back this being a long affair as neither of them is likely to go down without a fight.
