Ivashka Finds Form in Geneva
Ilya Ivashka brings a 7-10 record to the French Open, but despite the losing record he will take heart from the fact that he got into form just in time for the Paris major.
The 28-year-old Belarusian, who competed in the Geneva Open last week, defeated Marcos Giron and Denis Shapovalov in the first two rounds to reach his second quarterfinal of the season.
The World no. 50 lost a tough match to João Sousa but will be confident of carrying the form to Roland Garros, where he will make a second main draw appearance. In 2018, he lost in the opening round on his debut.
Ivashka, who won the Winston-Salem Open last year, is 4-6 on clay this season. While he has played a lot of matches on hard courts, he has very little experience on clay courts at any level. Can the Geneva result inspire him to make a winning start in Paris?

Paire In Woeful Touch
Benoit Paire has won main draw matches in just two of the 14 tour-level events he has featured in this year. At the Australian Open, he won the first two rounds before falling to Stefanos Tsitsipas in four sets.
Eleven first round exits followed that run in the Melbourne major, but Paire ended that losing streak with a three-set win over Emil Ruusuvuori in the opening round in Geneva. The 33-year-old was tamed by Casper Ruud in the next round, but that win over Ruusuvuori would have restored a bit of confidence in him ahead of his 13th appearance in the French Open.
Paire has never made it to the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam, and his best in Roland Garros was a fourth round finish in 2019. Last year he got knocked out in the first round.
The Frenchman, who has won all three of his tour level titles on clay, has a 47.8% win record on the surface. He is 1-8 so far on clay this year, but may still fancy his chances against Ivashka.
Ivashka v Paire Prediction and Tip
Paire’s experience, particularly on clay, gives him a slight edge in this contest. Expect him to edge past Ivashka in the opener.
