Solid Start for Khachanov
Karen Khachanov arrived in Paris after a very up and down year. The Russian play is still not able to find any sort of consistency with his play ranging from great to solid to abysmal. Owner of a 16-13 record on the year, Khachanov would like to see himself stabilize with a solid run on this final clay event of the year.
It’s unclear whether he will be able to do it but beating Nuno Borges in four sets is a very good start for him. He came to Paris after a weak showing in Lyon so it’s important to build up some confidence. The Russian has always been a pretty consistent performer at grand slams.
He always finds some of his best tennis at these events so we might see win a couple of matches here. He played in the quarterfinal in 2019 and in the 4th round in 2020 with a 2nd round exit last year. If he find a consistent serve and forehand he will be tricky to beat.

Resurgence of Dellien
Hugo Dellien was a very solid tennis player for a while but the pandemic completely derailed his career and it took a very long time to get back. The Bolivian had to play many events to build up his form and confidence but it’s finally paying off.
Downing Dominic Thiem is not as impressive as it would have been three years ago but it was a continuation of solid play for Dellien who is now back inside the top 100. A clay-court specialist he has stamina for days and he’s able to get pretty much any ball back.
He can be aggressive from time to time but he doesn’t have powerful groundstrokes so stronger players can hang with him. He’s very persistent so you need to bring your A game in order to avoid getting caught up in long rallies and a long match. 32-14 is the record this year and all were played on clay.
Khachanov v Dellien Prediction and Tip
They never played before so this makes it a bit tricky but Khachanov is the far better player overall. On clay we might see a battle though as expect Dellien to frustrate Khachanov into many mistakes. The Russian will need his serve and his forehand to be stable as well.
On return he needs to apply early pressure on Dellien to force him on the defensive side because the serve is not that great. Khachanov will need to impose his will if he wants to this one and he should be able to because he has stronger groundstrokes.
Overall I think we will see four sets, maybe even five but I do think Khachanov will have enough. He should be smart enough to not allow Dellien to bait him into long rallies and the Bolivian won’t have any options after that.
Tip: Khachanov to win in four sets: 5/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
