World No. 21 Grigor Dimitrov made a quick start as he powered past Marcos Giron in the opening round on Sunday.
The Bulgarian won 83% points on the first serve, struck 28 winners and converted 7 of 17 break points, while not getting broken even once in the match on his way to a 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 victory over the American.
This was the 31-year-old’s 13th victory at Roland Garros, where he is competing for the 12th time. His best at the French Open was a Round of 16 appearance in 2020.
The win improved Dimitrov’s season record to 16-10 and the Monte-Carlo Masters semifinalist will be hoping to build on the confident start with another win in the second round on Tuesday.

Coric Sends Taberner Packing
World No. 279 Borna Coric registered his second win of the season as he overturned a one-set deficit to knock out Spain’s Carlos Taberner in the first round.
The Croatian, who has four third round finishes at Roland Garros, needed three hours and 10 minutes to beat Taberner 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.
Broken twice in the match, the Croatian converted 6 of 16 break points.
Coric won 76% points on the back of his first serve, and struck 54 winners and made 39 unforced errors to Taberner’s 20 winners and 24 unforced errors.
With the win, Coric improved to 2-5 at the top level and 2-6 overall this season. He is one of the better players on clay with a 54.6% win record on the surface and having ended his losing streak, he will now look to extend his stay in Paris.
