Cori Gauff v Alison Van Uytvanck Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Gauff Starts Strong
Last year’s Roland Garros quarterfinalist Cori Gauff commenced her bid for another great run in Paris with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Canadia’s Rebecca Marino. The 18-year-old was a bit sloppy in the first set but found her groove quickly as she dismantled Marino.
On the whole, she committed 10 unforced errors but won a total of 72 points in comparison to Marino’s 55.
Gauff’s season so far has been fairly underwhelming – at least by her standards. That said, she broke into the top 20 briefly to reach her career-best ranking as World No. 15. She is now ranked #23 and arrived for the Slam on the back of consecutive, third-round appearances in Madrid and Rome.
In both those tournaments, the American fell to the likes of Simona Halep and Maria Sakkari respectively. It was a similar story for her in Doha, Adelaide, and Miami as well where she made it to mid-rounds but had to settle for losses to highly experienced, higher-ranked athletes.
Nonetheless, Gauff is a prodigy in the making and has achieved a lot more than most pros on the tour. With the early exits of Anett Kontaveit and Garbine Muguruza in her bracket, her path to the fourth round is all but clear here.

Van Uytvanck Benefits from a Lucky Start
Alison Van Uytvanck was in trouble in the opening match with Ann Li. The Belgian went down 3-6, 2-3; however, Li couldn’t continue any further citing illness, and as a result, had to retire from the match.
The World No. 60 now finds herself in round two once again – a stage where she hasn’t managed to surpass in her last five stints in Paris. That said, Van Uytvanck’s best Grand Slam result came right here in the French Open in 2015 when she reached the quarters.
Her chances of doing so this time, however, aren’t that great. Alison arrived in Paris with a tally of 7-9 with a quarterfinal result in Lyon being her best run.
The 28-year-old has not been particularly active either; after the Sunshine Doubles, her only tournament ahead of the Roland Garros was the Karlsruhe Challenger where she lost to Anna-Lena Friedsam in round two.
Gauff v Van Uytvanck Prediction and Tip
This match has Gauff written all over it. She has the form, momentum, and energy to dismiss a player of Uytvanck’s caliber who is struggling, sloppy, and out of sorts.
Expect a straight-set win from the teenager.
