Cameron Norrie v Jason Kubler Head to Head

They have never faced off in a competitive ATP match before but in 2013 they did play each other on the Futures circuit. That match, on clay, was won by Kubler.

Norrie Eases Past Guinard

Not quite at his best on clay, Norrie still had no qualms in going past Manuel Guinard in the first round of the competition.

Needing only two hours and 19 minutes, Norrie registered a 7-5, 6-2, 6-0 win over the 146th-ranked player to make it to the second round at Roland-Garros for the second year running. He will now want to emulate his last year’s showing here when he had reached the round of 32 before getting knocked out.

Norrie was off to a flier with an early break under his belt but dropped serve in the eighth game for Guinard to level things out at 4-4. He hit back with another break in the 11th before closing out a hard-fought first set.

The next two sets were a piece of cake for Norrie, who overcame an early break of serve in the second to win 11 of the 12 games from 1-1 there.

Having won the Lyon Open title coming into this tournament, Norrie is now on a five-match winning streak. Can he make it six in six?

Kubler Much Improved This Year

Kubler’s first round win over Denis Kudla was a sign of how improved he has been this season.

Having started off the year ranked 220th in the world, Kubler has featured on the Futures circuit, then made his way through the Challengers before finally winning his first main draw encounter at the highest level this year.

In fact this 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3) victory was Kubler’s first ever since his only win of the previous season that had come in January last year.

Kubler was on court for three hours and 18 minutes, and while he hit 10 aces in comparison with his opponent’s mere one, he was still broken three times in the match.

Can he continue to show similar kind of form going into this second round match against a player who has won five in a row?

Norrie v Kubler Prediction and Tip

Norrie will be a favourite to make it a sixth win in a row but we believe Kubler has the tenacity to snatch a set off the Brit.
