Ajla Tomljanovic is not having the best of years with a negative score of 12-13 she did score a major upset over Anett Kontaveit in round one. It was a superb display by the Aussie who played well in Rabat the week before but retire from her match against Bondar.
Tomljanovic is a pretty solid player but she does mostly well on courts that are faster. She has a big serve, and good groundstrokes and that suits her well when she can attack players. If she can’t then that’s a problem and she gets vulnerable.
It’s the reason why she lost against Gracheva twice. The Russian was able to assert herself and Tomljanovic did not know what to do. The win over Kontaveit was encouraging so maybe she find something this week in Paris.

Slowly But Surely For Gracheva
Varvara Gracheva has been improving steadily of over the past two years with the Russian now firmly ranked inside the top 100. She’s a pretty solid player who likes to attack and plays her best tennis on clay. She is generally an all-court player as her results speak volumes.
This year has been pretty good for her with a 17-11 record. Her clay one is 9-6 and most of those wins came recently as she was preparing for Roland Garros. In round one she faced Astra Sharma and despite having a lot of difficulties in the match she was able to emerge victoriously.
She had a very solid outing last year in Paris reaching the 3rd round and losing to Marta Kostyuk. This year she might do the same but the road goes through to Tomljanovic whom she defeated twice before.
Tomljanovic v Gracheva Prediction and Tip
So this is a very interesting matchup because Gracheva is leading Tomljanovic 2-0. The Russian never dropped a set againt her and the win in Dubai earlier this year is certainly raising a few eyebrows. Tomljanovic has since improved a lot because earlier in the season she was playing rather bad.
She looks determined and healthy which is important to her. Gracheva had a lot more issues in round one and they came against a player she should have easily beaten. Makes me think that she’s not playing with much confidence at the moment. If we’re aware of the 0-2 for Tomljanovic against Gracheva, Ajla is too.
I think she will get her revenge here because I think she is playing a bit better at the moment. Gracheva had a better year so far but some of those wins did not came on the highest of levels. Back Tomljanovic to get this done.
