Carlos Alcaraz v Albert Ramos-Vinolas Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two and Alcaraz has won both, with the two victories coming on clay.

The first victory came at Rio in 2020 with Alcaraz needing three sets to get through while the next meeting was in Umag in 2021 when he did not waste too much time.

Alcaraz Routs Londero in Opener

Alcaraz has played 17 matches on clay this season and won 16 of them with his sole loss coming in the first round of Monte-Carlo Masters at the hands of Sebastian Korda.

It was a shock loss given his three other tournament wins Alcaraz has registered already on red dirt.

The 16th of those wins came in the first round here at Roland-Garros, and much like most of his previous performances, the Spaniard looked nearly invincible and a serious title contender.

Ranked sixth in the world, Alcaraz romped to a 6-4, 6-2, 6-0 win over Juan Igancio Londero, needing less than two hours to wrap things up. There were no break-points against Alcaraz and he dished out six breaks of serves in return to finish things off quickly.

Can he continue that same clinical run to make it his number 17 win?

Ramos-Vinolas Halts Four-Match Losing Streak

For a player as proficient on clay as Ramos-Vinolas is, it was strange to see him lose four matches in a row on that surface. Which is why despite his experience on clay, Ramos-Vinolas did not enter his first round match against Thanasi Kokkinakis as a favourite.

The Spaniard, however, dug deep, resisted a Kokkinakis fightback and completed a four-set win over his Aussie counterpart.

Ramos-Vinolas won 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) in a match that lasted four hours and 11 minutes with six breaks of serves under his belt to his opponent’s five. Incidentally, Ramos-Vinolas earned himself 22 opportunities to get past his opponent’s serve which meant he missed out on a few opportunities but failed to convert a few of them.

That’s something he cannot afford to do against a player of Alcaraz’s pedigree if he wants to make a dent into the world number six’s serve.

Alcaraz v Ramos-Vinolas Prediction and Tip

Like the first round, Alcaraz starts off as an overwhelming favourite to win this at 3/50. Expect another straight-set victory for Alcaraz.
