Jannik Sinner v Roberto Carballes Baena Head to Head

This will be their first meeting.

Sinner Eases Into Round Two

Jannik Sinner faced qualifier Bjorn Fratangelo and the American was no match losing 6-3 6-2 6-3. Sinner played a very composed match which was important for him.

He’s a very streaky player and he needs to start off well so he can continue building upon that. Plenty of good stuff in this one. He won over 80 % on his first serve, he serve rather well and he hit 32 winners and only 26 unforced errors saving both break points he faced.

If he repeats that again he should be good to go but it will be tough. The Spaniard is very pesky, he gets a lot of balls back and Sinner must avoid overhitting in rallies. The errors will pile up and doubt will creep in. He just needs to keep playing his game and good serving would aid that.

He can throw Baena out of the court and finish points quickly. The longer rallies will be tough for him to manage.

A Quick 5-setter for Baena

Roberto Carballes Baena needed 5 sets to take down Oscar Otte 7-6(5) 6-1 3-6 2-6 6-3. It was a very quick match mostly because Otte can’t be bothered to play long rallies.

That works for Baena who likes to bait players into exactly that. I will get the ball back an you either hit a winner or slam it wide. It worked well early on as Baena won a tiebreak and then baited Otte into a quick meltdown. When the German did start hitting more the Spaniard was in trouble.

Eventually, he was able to weather the storm and win the 3rd. It was well played by both. Otte hit 88 winners in the match and still lost but only because Baena hit 55 to only 22 errors. I doubt he can repeat such a performance no matter how well he plays again.

Sinner v Carballes Baena Prediction and Tip

So this will be on Sinner’s racquet. He can win the match and should but he needs to be smart about it. Otte provided a solid blueprint for him: attack smartly. Sinner must outhit his opponent to win but he needs to keep the errors low. Otte did the same but he committed almost the same number of errors as Baena had winners.

That can’t happen again and if he does I don’t think Sinner will have a good time. I do think the Spaniard will get one set but that will be all.
