Medvedev Breaks No Sweat in Djere Match

Medvedev’s tryst with clay hasn’t always resulted in victories that he can take a lot away from but in this tournament so far, the Russian has been in rollicking form.

Sure he has gone into each of his first two rounds as a favourite but the manner in which he has dismantled both his opponents has been something to behold.

The world number two, having dispatched Facundo Bagnis 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round, wasted not a lot more time in the second either. Medvedev was on court for two hours and 37 in sending Laslo Djere out 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 to set up a meeting with another Serb.

It wasn’t the brightest start to the match for Medvedev, who fell 2-0 down in the first set, but broke back twice to seal the lead. The pair then exchanged breaks of serve to start the second, but Medvedev got himself a crucial break in the ninth game before serving it out to go two sets to love up.

Another early break of serve against him did not deter Medvedev from taking the initiative back, before the Russian ended the encounter with a third break of the set in the ninth game.

He will hope to continue that same run against Kecmanovic.

Kecmanovic Takes His Time to Down Bublik

It took Kecmanovic some time to get into his rhythm but once he did, Alexander Bublik was no match for the Serbian and world number 31.

Kecmanovic, who has established his authority on the tour already this season, had earlier gotten past Tomas Etcheverry in straight sets in his opener. Things, however, weren’t that straightforward starting out against Bublik, when he dropped the first 6-4 to his opponent.

And it looked like things could get worse when Bublik raced away to a 3-0 lead in the second before Kecmanovic finally found his rhythm.

He broke back twice, failed to serve it out but then broke his opponent for the third time to level things out. From there on, it was pretty much one way traffic with Kecmanovic wrapping the next two sets up 6-2, 6-1 to complete the win.

Can he now topple Medvedev from the perch here?

Medvedev v Kecmanovic Prediction and Tip

Medvedev continues to remain favourite it might not be as straightforward, with Kecmanovic expected to give him a tough fight. Expect Medvedev to win but to drop a set at least doing that.
