Jannik Sinner v Mackenzie McDonald Head to Head
Sinner won their only H2H in the final of Washington Open Final last year. He won 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 in what was a grueling baseline affair, the match had 35 break points created.

Italian player Jannik Sinner came through a tight 4 setter against Roberto Carballes Baena in the second round match. Sinner won 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. Baena was controlling the rallies in the 1st set and half of the match, but Sinner was able to grow into the match and hit more winners than unforced errors.
Sinner also beat American qualifier Bjorn Fratangelo in straight sets in the first round match. Sinner’s best result in Roland Garros was reaching the quarterfinal in 2020 which was his French Open debut, and he reached the Round of 16 last year.
20 year old Jannik Sinner is 10-3 on clay this year and 26-6 overall. He has reached 5 quarterfinals in big tournaments this year including the Australian Open.
Earlier this year he shocked the tennis world by replacing his coach since he was 13 years of age, Riccardo Piatti with Simone Vagnozzi.
Sinner has been playing good tennis, but he has more gears in him and we are yet to see the best of him. The best players play their best tennis progressively over the two weeks of a Grand Slam and it is safe to assume that Sinner’s level will rise with every match played here.

McDonald Reaches Round 3 for the First Time
World number 60 Mackenzie McDonald reached the third round of Roland Garros for the first time in his career after blazing through Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 in the second round.
McDonald is primarily a hard court player. He is 4-5 on clay this year and 13-14 overall. Since reaching the final in Washington last year when he lost to Sinner, McDonald has yet to make any sort of run in any tournament since then.
The American has a very aggressive baseline game and never let’s his opponents settle on their serve. He is an excellent returner of serve too, however his own serve is very weak and gets broken often.
He will have a free swing against Sinner knowing he is the underdog here.
Sinner v McDonald Prediction and Tip
Sinner is the clean favourite here as both players prefer to control the game through baseline rallies and Sinner is slightly more superior than McDonald in that department. Also of the two, Sinner’s serve holds up more especially under pressure.
