Alexander Zverev v Bernabe Zapata Miralles Head to Head

This will be their first meeting.

Zverev Looking Sharp

Alexander Zverev survived a big scare in round two against Sebastian Baez barely escaping with his life in that one. Now in round four, he will face another player who likes to attack and doesn’t think twice about doing it.

Zverev had a fairly decent draw getting Brandon Nakashima in round 3 and he was able to take care of that in straight sets. It wasn’t the best of Zverev but at times he looked really good which is important for him. The German can find his best when he needs to but early rounds tend to be complicated for him as he relaxes quite a bit.

It nearly cost him against Nakashima as well when he threw away a lead in the final set with a break up to play the tiebreak. He rallied from 1-3 to win it 7-5 but it was a close call. Zverev tends to play passive sometimes and goes for very difficult shots.

He showed that today as well but the most important thing for him is that the serve is working really well. He hit 18 aces and won 77 % of points after his first serve. When that number hovers around 80 % he is incredibly hard to beat.

Breakout for Zapata Miralles

Bernabe Zapata Miralles is a very interesting player who is playing really well in Paris. He has flirted with the top 100 on a couple of occasions but he was never able to enter it. This year has been quite solid for him with a 22-15 record. He is 19-11 on clay and some of his matches here have been really fun.

He has a good game and generally likes to attack. That is all fine and well but his game is very up and down during his match. Beating Taylor Fritz was a major surprise but even more so in only four sets. The win over Isner was a prototypical Zapata performance as it took him 5 sets.

He could have finished it off earlier but that’s just him. His matches are a roller coaster and his play follows that pattern. At times he seems unplayable and at other times he can’t miss the court. Generally, he’s been quite precise in Paris so far hitting quite a few winners in both matches.

He can give Zverev problems especially if the German relaxes. Keep reading to see what might happen.

Zverev v Zapata Miralles Prediction and Tip

Obviously, Zverev is the far better player and he has a far higher baseline level. If the plays this match seriously he should finish it off in straight sets. The talent difference is quite staggering. Even so, I expect this one to go to four at least why? Because Zverev will do Zverev things and Zapata will do Zapata things.

I expected the Spaniard to have one spectacular set of tennis where Zverev will be left stunned. I expect Zverev to complicate at times as well and he will get punished for it. Overall the German should have his serve working well enough to keep Zapata away from many break chances.

That should be good enough to secure a win in four sets. Take Zverev.
