Liudmila Samsonova v Ann Li Head to Head

Last year, Liudmilla Samsonova won her only WTA title on grass at the German Open in Berlin. She had come through the qualifiers and gone on to win the WTA 500 event by defeating Belinda Bencic in the final.
Samsonova followed it up with a run to the Round of 16 at Wimbledon. The Berlin win helped her break into the top 100 and then the run at Wimbledon helped her break into the top 60 in the world.
The 23-year-old, ranked no. 27 in the world, is set to begin this year’s grass court season in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. She is on a four-match losing streak. Since losing in the semifinals of the Stuttgart Open, she lost in the opening round matches of the Madrid Open, Italian Open and the French Open.
She had a 10-1 record on grass last season, including qualifiers, and will be looking to start well on her ‘s-Hertogenbosch debut.

Li Yet to Make a Mark on Grass
Taking on Samsonova will be the United States’ Ann Li, who retired from her first round match at the French Open against Alison Van Uytvanck with an injury.
The World no. 67 was 7-7 before the French Open, including a qualifier, with her best performance coming in Melbourne, where she reached the final four.
Li doesn’t have a lot of experience on grass and begins her 2022 grass campaign with an overall record of 3-7 on the surface.
Last year, she won her only match at Bad Homburg, while losing her opening round matches in Berlin and Wimbledon. She too will be making her debut at ‘s-Hertogenbosch and the opener will be a test of her fitness.
