Kalinskaya Happy to Move On from Clay

Kalinskaya had shown signs of improvement earlier in the season with a semifinal appearance at Guadalajara and third rounds at both, the Indian Wells Open and Miami Open.

Unfortunately for her, this was followed by a slump which has typically been a hallmark of her career but at least this time one can blame it on the change of surface. Clay has never been the Russian’s favourite, and other than a first round win in a WTA 125 competition, she only suffered losses.

An opening defeat in Saint-Malo was followed by first round ousters in Rabat and at Roland-Garros.

Which is why Kalinskaya will be glad to be bidding clay an adieu for the season and build on her earlier gains on grass.

Here’s the deal though. Kalinskaya is yet to win a main round match at the highest level on grass with her victories having come in the qualifiers of tournaments, including at Wimbledon.

Can she change that record around?

Lamens Has Never Played on Grass

She is 22, a fairly advanced age as far as tennis players go but Lamens has never played on grass. Not at the highest level, not in the qualifiers of events or even on the ITF circuit!

Which is why it should come as no surprise she starts off as 33/10 underdog to win this despite having climbed up to her career-best ranking of 167th in the world.

Lamens’ rise even to that has been thanks to her showing on clay, a surface on which she has won four of her five ITF titles. This includes one Lamens won earlier this year in Medellin.

The switch from clay to grass will be a tough one especially for someone who has never featured on it before this and that’s where Lamens could struggle. The confidence from her previous results this season might help but only so much.

Kalinskaya v Lamens Prediction and Tip

It’s a match-up between someone who has never won a main draw match on grass and another who has never played on grass at any level. Tough call, which is why odds of 1/5 for Kalinskaya are probably too short to go for it. Games market might not be a bad option.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 17/20 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
