Korda will not be overly disappointed with his season so far but then again, he would have loved to do a lot better than what he has. Having touched a career-high ranking of 30th in the world, Korda managed three wins in a single tournament just once this season with that record having come in Estoril.
Other than that, and on one hand, Korda has reached the third round of competitions on five occasions which speaks of his consistency but at the same time, would be utterly disappointing for the American for not having been able to make it too much farther than that.
At least at the French Open, which was his last tournament, he was sent packing by one of the pre-tournament favourites, Carlos Alcaraz, but to lose back to back matches to Lorenzo Musetti and Botic van de Zandschup in Madrid and Rome would hurt.
Korda’s first full season on grass came last year and he seemed to have done well – a quarterfinal in this competition and fourth round at Wimbledon. He would dearly look to start things off with an easing win again.

Garin 5-6 in Career Grass Court Competitions
Much like Korda, Garin is also coming off a third round appearance at the French Open where he lost the final set tie-breaker 13-11 to Andrey Rublev. It had gotten that close.
This was after he had reached the quarterfinal in Rome in the competition before that, speaking volumes about his form on clay.
On grass, however, Garin’s career performances have left a lot to desire. And that’s despite making it to the fourth round at Wimbledon last season, a first round loss at both, Queen’s Club Championships and Wimbledon 2019 underlining that fact.
Can he overturn Korda in this opener where his opponent will also be looking to get used to the grass courts of Halle?
