Caroline Garcia v Viktorija Golubic Head to Head

Having won just seven of the 16 matches she had played in the lead-up to her first encounter on grass for the season, Garcia might not have been in a very confident mode coming into her opener in Nottingham.
That she managed to overcome Lauren Davis in the first round there in straight sets would have come as a huge relief for the former world number four. And then again, in round two, Garcia fell in two sets to Alison Riske, the eventual finalist.
It is this lack of consistency in results that will bother Garcia and despite having two of her eight WTA titles on grass, the Frenchwoman’s confidence looks to be in tatters.

Golubic Coming off a Semifinal Appearance
While Garcia was knocked out in the second round in Nottingham, Golubic rode her way into the last four stage of that same competition. It was her best result of the season, with the Swiss player having never won three matches in a row in 2022.
Her performance was helped by a first round retirement of Emma Raducanu before Golubic sent out another British player Heather Watson in the second.
Against Ajla Tomljanovic in the quarterfinals, Golubic was 7/5 to win it and win she did as she took down the Aussie in straight sets.
It was Riske again who finally managed to stall Golubic’s high-flying but by then Golubic had done enough to prove that her quarterfinal appearance at last year’s Wimbledon was no flash in the pan.
And she will start things off as a favourite against the struggling Garcia.
