Ruud Back To Tennis

Casper Ruud’s final match before this one was the Roland Garros final where Rafael Nadal proved much better making history in the process. It’s been a good outing for Ruud who is still progressing and rounding off his game.

The Norwegian player will now get a rare opportunity to better his grass game which severely lacks. He famously said in March that grass is for golf players and not tennis players. But jokes aside, Ruud can play solid tennis on grass it’s just that he hasn’t played that much on it.

In time he will certainly become a capable player because he moves well, he has a decent serve and a very good forehand. A 21-6 season certainly proves he’s playing the best tennis of his career and some of that will translate to the grass as well.

Ruud is 2-4 on the grass in his career and 2-2 overall. Queen’s Club will host him for the first time so he will get an early taste of British grass that will await him at Wimbledon as well. Having lost in round one last year, there is motivation to do much better this year.

A Rare ATP Event For Peniston

Ryan Peniston has not played many ATP events mainly due to his level being more suited to the challenger tour. Peniston, like many other, British players plays fairly solid tennis on grass due to his familiarity with the surface essentially growing up on it.

He’s also pretty balanced overall but nothing in his game jumps out. The serve and forehand are his main weapons, same with many other players. The 2022 season has been very good for him with a 22-14 score so far and 4-2 on grass. He’s been playing on it for two weeks already with some very notable wins.

He bested Adrian Mannarino in Surbiton in three sets after losing the first. He also beat fellow Brit Jack Draper also in three sets. Those are some impressive wins for him as he shows himself fairly capable of holding his own against very good players.

He is 23-18 all-time on the surface and it’s not out of the question that he might give Ruud quite a good challenge. Overall it’s a great chance for him in Queen’s and he should be motivated.

Ruud v Peniston Prediction and Tip

So Casper Ruud is by far the better player here but on grass, there is not much separating these two players. Don’t expect Peniston to be afraid of this challenge but rather embrace it. He has very little to lose in this match and I expect it to be fairly close. One tiebreak should be given but we might even see two.

I don’t see Ruud smashing his opponent and I could actually see him lose this match. The first one on grass after a huge disappointment in Paris. There is some major value on Peniston but I’ll stick with Ruud in three. He’s been pretty good recently at overcoming adversity and I think he will do it again.

Tip: Ruud to win in three sets sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
