Mackenzie McDonald will be making his debut in Halle on Monday. The 27-year-old has a 5-5 career record on grass and his only appearances on the surface this year ended with a three-set defeat to Ilya Ivashka in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
The American had a pretty successful grass season in 2018, reaching the quarterfinals in Rosmalen and the fourth round at Wimbledon, but has not succeeded in getting another tour level main draw win on the surface.
The World No. 53 has a 12-14 record this year, with his best being a quarterfinal finish in Dubai. He also won two matches each at the Miami Open and the French Open.
McDonald will be looking to win his first tour level match on grass since 2018.

Huesler Qualifies for First Tour Level Event of 2022
Marc-Andrea Huesler will be playing his first tour-level match of the year on Monday.
The Swiss, ranked 114th in the world, qualified for the main draw with a come-from-behind three-set win over Arthur Rinderknech in the first qualifying round and then he handed Australia’s Christopher O’Connell a straight sets defeat in the second qualifying round on Sunday.
Monday’s first round match with also be Huesler’s first tour level match on grass
The 25-year-old left-hander, who won two Challenger titles on clay in Mexico in April, was a quarterfinalist at the Nottingham Challenger last week.
McDonald v Huesler Prediction and Tip
McDonald is the higher-ranked player, but he will be wary of Huesler’s form. Expect the Swiss player to be competitive and he could even dump out the American in the first round.
