Mertens Struggling on Singles Tour
World No. 30 Elise Mertens has had a pretty disappointing spell on the tour this season. Although her tally stands at 14-11, there is certainly room for improvement.
She last played in Den Bosch in the Libema Open where she was stunned in round two by her compatriot Alison Van Uytvanck in straight sets. Elise incurred a similar shocking loss in Strasbourg a few weeks back at the hands of Kaja Juvan in the quarterfinal.
In fact, the Belgian’s season is dotted with such surprising, early-exits which came against players like Linda Fruhvirtova, Rebecca Peterson, and Jil Teichmann.
In other cases, her losses may be more justified as she was up against the top 20 players.
On the doubles side of things, it’s business as usual for Mertens as she continues to retain her No. 1 ranking. Last week, she made it to the final in ‘s-Hertogenbosch with Veronika Kudermetova but lost to the pairing of Ellen Perez and Tamara Zidansek.

McNally Prevails in the Qualifiers
Caty McNally, currently ranked World No. 197, started as a qualifier in Birmingham and dismissed Astra Sharma and Maddison Inglis to reach the main draw.
She enjoyed a similar run last week in the Netherlands; the American made it all the way to the quarterfinal after defeating the likes of Daria Saville and Tamara Zidansek.
That was McNally’s best showing on the tour this season; her other runs ended in qualifying/early exits – be it on the WTA or ITF circuit.
As for her pedigree, the 20-year-old has achieved a fair bit on the doubles side of things. She was a runner-up last year in the US Open with Cori Gauff while this season, she won the St. Petersburg Trophy with Anna Kalinskaya.
Mertens v McNally Prediction and Tip
McNally has got a good chance of beating the fourth-seeded Mertens, especially considering the latter’s shaky, erratic form. Plus, the American is a three-time Wimbledon doubles Junior finalist – she clearly is well-versed with the nuances of grass courts.
This should be an entertaining affair; McNally makes for a good underdog bet while for the safe bettors, this may go to over 20.5 games.
Tip: Over 20.5 Games: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
