Lorenzo Sonego v Denis Kudla Head to Head

In their only previous meeting which came earlier this year in Miami, Kudla managed to overcome Sonego in a tough three-setter to move into the third round.

Sonego Coming off Solid Stuttgart Showing

It hasn’t been the best season start for Sonego but his showing at the Stuttgart Open played last week should give him a lot of confidence coming into this tournament.

Having made it to the fourth round at Wimbledon last year, Sonego continued with that kind of form on grass with back to back victories over Benoit Paire and Jan-Lennard Struff in Stuttgart.

And even against the eventual title winner, Matteo Berrettini, Sonego managed to take the first set off him before his Italian counterpart settled into a better rhythm and won the encounter in three.

Interestingly, this was Sonego’s second successive tournament appearance in which he had managed to register two back to back wins, having not done that in the eight tournaments before that.

Can he tame the grass court specialist Kudla who has made it through as a lucky loser?

Kudla Hasn’t Won Since Miami

The last time Kudla won a main draw match was back in March when he made it to the main draw of the Miami Masters through qualifiers and then carved out a couple of victories to reach the third round.

One of those wins was in the second round against Sonego himself (check out the head to head section) before Kudla was finally sent out by Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Here, Kudla was knocked out in the qualifiers by Quentin Halys, losing in straight sets to his opponent but has entered the main draw courtesy of a late withdrawal of Andy Murray.

Murray was tipped to be Sonego’s opponent in this one but with the British player injured, it gives Kudla an opportunity to improve his grass court record from the current 25-24.

Sonego v Kudla Prediction and Tip

Sonego would have gone in as a heavy second favourite against an in-form Murray but against Kudla, he should cruise through. A word of caution though, despite being a lucky loser, Kudla loves playing on grass and if given an opportunity, could test Sonego.

Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
