Carreno Busta Fends Off Korda
World no. 19 Pablo Carreno Busta continued his march on his first grass court campaign of the season as the Spaniard ousted American Sebastian Korda in three sets in the Round of 16 on Wednesday.
The sixth seed, who had begun the tournament with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) win over Holger Rune in the opening round, won a closely contested first set against Korda before being blown away in the second, as the American came right back into the contest by bagelling the Olympic bronze medallist.
Pegged back, Carreno Busta composed himself before taking the third set winning the contest 6-4, 0-6, 6-3. The win ended Korda’s hopes of reaching a second consecutive Halle quarterfinal.
Carreno Busta doesn’t have a huge reputation on grass, as the win was just his sixth from his 12th match on the surface at the tour level. But he has featured in two previous semifinals, in Antalya in 2019 and in Mallorca in 2021.
It will be interesting to see if he can make it 3 from 3 in quarterfinals on grass courts.

Kyrgios Knocks Out Second Seed Tsitsipas
He smashed his racquet after losing the opening set, argued with the umpire two games into the second set and yet found a way to score an impressive come-from-behind victory over second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round on Wednesday.
Ranked No. 65, Kyrgios needed two hours and six minutes to beat the Greek 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. He was out-aced 9-18 by Tsitsipas and also hit seven fewer winners than the latter’s 39, but the Aussie got broken just once in the match, as he saved seven of eight break points that he faced.
In contrast, he broke the Greek thrice, twice in the second and once in the final set to advance to a fourth quarterfinal of the season in just his sixth tournament of the year.
A semifinalist in his last two tournaments, in Stuttgart last week and in Houston in April, Kyrgios will be aiming to reach a third successive semifinal and if he does make it to the final four in Halle, he could be back into the top 50.
The Australian has looked sharp on grass and had made a solid start to his Halle campaign with a straight sets win over Germany’s Daniel Altmaier.
Carreno Busta v Kyrgios Prediction and Tip
On grass, Kyrgios definitely holds the edge. He has very good numbers on the surface compared to the Spaniard, and is in terrific form as well. Expect the Australian to advance with ease.
Tip: Kyrgios to win in straight sets: 11/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
