Medvedev Holds Off Ivashka Again

Daniil Medvedev’s solid showing on grass continued as the World no. 1 reached a second straight quarterfinal with a straight sets win over Ilya Ivashka at the Halle Open.

Last week, Medvedev had gone on to reach the final at ‘s-Hertogenbosch, only to suffer a shock defeat to then World no. 205 Tim Van Rijthoven.

Medvedev, however, put that upset behind him quickly as he knocked out Belgium’s David Goffin in straight sets on Wednesday to begin his Halle campaign. The 26-year-old followed the 6-3, 6-2 victory with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win over Ivashka on Thursday.

The top seed Russian wasn’t broken in either of the two matches. While he saved two break points against Goffin and converted 3 of 5, he saved 6 break points against Ivashka on Thursday, while capitalising on one of the six opportunities that he held to break the Belarusian’s serve.

Ivashka, who was beaten by Medvedev in Rosmalen last week, yet again posed a challenge and had three set points on Medvedev’s serve at 4-5 in the first set, but the Russian saved all three of them before taking the set in the tiebreak.

Medvedev looked good in the second and got the only break of the match in the fourth game before sealing the contest and advancing to another quarterfinal.

A 13-time tour level champion, Medvedev is yet to win a title this season, but finished runner-up at the Australian Open and the Rosmalen Open. Can he advance to a fourth semifinal of the season on Friday?

Bautista Agut Rebounds to Beat Griekspoor

Roberto Bautista Agut rebounded after losing the first set in the second round against Tallon Griekspoor to advance to the quarterfinal of the Halle Open with a 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 6-3 victory on Thursday.

The World No. 20 had advanced to the second round after a struggling Marton Fucsovics retired while trailing 2-6, 0-3 in the opening round.

Bautista-Agut, who had not won consecutive matches since winning his 10th ATP title in Doha this year, will be eyeing a second semifinal spot in Halle, having reached that far in 2018.

He was edged out by Griekspoor in a neck-and-neck tiebreak in the first set, but the 2019 Wimbled semifinalist steadied himself over the next two sets, winning them easily and advancing to the last eight.

Medvedev v Bautista Agut Prediction and Tip

Bautista Agut has the psychological advantage having beaten Medvedev on all three previous occasions. Can the Spaniard extend his prefect run or will Medvedev finally get a win? Expect a close contest with the World no. 1 edging through.

Tip: Medvedev to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
