Medvedev Tops Bautista Agut
Daniil Medvedev rolled into the semifinals with a straight sets thrashing of Roberto Bautista Agut on Friday.
The world No. 1, who had not been broken in the first two rounds, wasn’t broken by the Spaniard either, as he saved all nine of the break points that he faced in the quarterfinal before advancing with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
The one-hour-and-27-minute contest saw Medvedev strike 28 winners, including eight aces. He won 82% point on his first serve and converted three of five break points to march into the final four for the fourth time this season. Medvedev, who finished runner-up at the Australian and Rosmalen Opens had fallen in the final four stage in Acapulco.
Having suffered a shock upset in the final in ‘s-Hertogenbosch to Tim van Rijthoven last week, he regrouped quickly to dispatch his first three opponents at the Halle Open with ease.
Medvedev saved 2 of 2 break points in a 6-3, 6-2 win over David Goffin in the opening round and 6 of 6 break points in a 7-6, 6-3 win over Ilya Ivashka in the second round.
He will now have his sights set on a 25th tour-level final and a third this year. He is yet to add to his 13 titles this season.

Otte Reaches Another Semifinal
A semifinalist in Stuttgart last week, Germany’s Oscar Otte has returned to another semifinal, this time in Halle.
The World no. 51, who had received a walkover in the Stuttgart quarterfinal last week, had to work hard in the last eight match in Halle on Friday as he scored a come-from-behind win over eighth seed Karen Khachanov.
Otte out-aced the Russian 22-11, saved 8 of 9 break points and converted the only one break point that he held in the match, which eventually helped him advance to the semifinals with a 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory.
It was the second day in a row when Otte had to fight back after losing the first set. In the second round, Otte had defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili 4-6, 6-0, 7-6.
The 28-year-old, who also featured in the Munich semifinal this year, improved his grass record to 5-1 this season following Friday’s win.
He had begun his Halle campaign with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Miomir Kecmanovic. He has already struck 50 aces in the first three rounds and will be looking for a few more in the semifnals.
