Hurkacz Edges Out Auger-Aliassime

Hubert Hurkacz got his first win over Felix Auger-Aliassime to advance to the semifinals of the Halle Open.

The Polish player, ranked No. 12th in the world, withstood 21 aces from the Canadian in a neck-and-neck quarterfinal. Both players served well throughout the contest with Auger-Aliassime winning 89% points on his first serve and Hurkacz winning 79% points on his first delivery. There was just one break point opportunity in the entire match which was saved by the Pole.

While there was little to choose between the two players throughout the match, it was Hurkacz who dominated the tiebreaks to win 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-4).

Hurkacz, who scored a tough three-set win over Maxime Cressy in the first round, had ousted Ugo Humbert in straight sets in Round 2.

Last year’s Wimbledon semifinalist didn’t have a great start to the grass season this year, falling in the opening round in Stuttgart. But he seems to have found his range in Halle and will aim to reach his first final on Saturday.

Kyrgios Demolishes Carreno Busta

Nick Kyrgios pulled off a variety of trick shots, including tweeners and an under arm serve, on Friday to demolish Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarterfinal in straight sets.

Kyrgios struck 13 aces, didn’t face a single break point and converted three of seven to win the 69 minute contest 6-4, 6-2.

The World no. 65 is into his third consecutive semifinal, although there was a huge gap between the Houston and Stuttgart semis as he took a break from the clay season.

Last week, in Stuttgart, it was Andy Murray who halted his run in the final four stage, but this week he will be hoping to reach the title clash with a win Saturday. And given his experience on grass, the 27-year-old may hold a slight edge over Hurkacz.

Making his Halle Open debut, Kyrgios knocked out Daniel Altmaier in straight sets in the opener, before rallying past second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in three in the Round of 16.

Can he keep the momentum going?

Hurkacz v Kyrgios Prediction and Tip

Expect an intriguing contest with Kyrgios finally reaching his first final since winning his sixth ATP title in Washington in 2019.
