At the time of writing this Bencic is still in the event in Berlin which means there is a slight chance she might pull out of this one. If she doesn’t she will face Sabine Lisicki in round one and that will be a match she will be looking forward to considering how well she has played in Berlin.
Playing well on grass is nothing strange for Bencic who can play well on all surfaces. The talent is there it’s about the consistency for her. She played in the final of Berlin last year so her being back in the semifinal is not a surprise. Her served is good enough and she can hit the ball really well.
The timing of this matchup will largely depend on how her Berlin run ends. If she goes to the final I think she pulls out. If she wins Berlin she will definitely pull out so it’s kind of hard to understand what might happen. It’s been a decent season for Bencic overall albeit nothing spectacular.
Her Roland Garros run showed her tennis is trending upward and that’s really the case. It’s a good trend for her with Wimbledon around the corner.

Solid Singles but Great Doubles From Lisicki
Sabine Lisicki is attempting a comeback and she’s looked fairly good on grass. It’s nothing unusual for the player that was dominant on grass at her peak. Her successes at Wimbledon were not by chance and she’s showing it this week.
Obviously having not played much in the past three years took its toll but she took down a solid player in Berlin in round one. Then she played a competitive match against Daria Saville and it showed she can still hang with some of the best.
She also opted to play doubles in Berlin and she’s in the semifinal together with Bianca Andreescu so maybe that’s a route to keep her career going. Her doubles play is pretty strong and we all know about her serve. That is a very useful thing on grass.
In Bad Homburg, she will look for more challenges and she will get a proper one from Bencic if she plays. A win against a drained Bencic would certainly create headlines and give her some confidence for Wimbledon.
Bencic v Lisicki Prediction and Tip
All things considered, there is only one way I see Lisicki winning this match. That would be if a very tired and drained Bencic showed up and played a very bad match. I don’t think she can beat Bencic if the Swiss player plays remotely solid tennis.
She’s simply in better a better rhythm with a strong game for grass. Lisicki might make it interesting but I don’t see her winning this one. No way.
